KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Whenever a Royals pitcher has issued a walk lately, the runner has usually scored. So when Ned Yosts own guys worked a pair of walks against the Yankees on Saturday night in the sixth inning of a tied game, the often-dour manager had an optimistic thought. "Lets turn it around this time," Yost said. Salvador Perez did just that. The big catcher belted a three-run homer into the bullpen in left field, and Eric Hosmer added a solo shot later in the game, sending Kansas City to an 8-4 victory over New York. "Ive said all along, I thought we have home-run power," said Yost, whose team has hit just 26 homers -- by far the fewest in the majors. "Itll manifest itself in time." Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar and Nori Aoki drove in a run apiece as the Royals bounced back from an offensively inept performance in a 4-2 series-opening loss Friday night. Aaron Crow (3-1) retired one batter in the sixth in relief of starter Danny Duffy, and breezed through the seventh to earn the victory. Kelvin Herrera and Michael Mariot finished it off. David Phelps (1-4) allowed seven runs on 10 hits and two walks in 5 2-3 innings. "Frustrating is the PG-rated word for it," he said. "I was pitching decent going into later parts of games, but its tough to win ballgames when you give up four runs in the sixth and seventh inning. Its frustrating." Yangervis Solarte drove in a pair of runs for New York, and Carlos Beltran -- whos been bothered by an ailing elbow and is still relegated to designated hitter duty -- got an RBI with his first hit since coming off the disabled list Thursday. "Its like starting over for me," Beltran said. "One day, two days is not going to do it, any difference. Basically you have to play every day and with playing time that will come. I cannot tell you (when). I wish I could know." The Royals struck first when Billy Butler and Gordon led off the second inning with back-to-back doubles, and Cain and Escobar provided run-scoring singles for a 3-0 lead. It took the Yankees until the sixth to answer. Derek Jeter started the rally with a single and Mark Teixeira kept it going with a two-out walk. Beltran followed with an RBI double against his former team, and Solarte tied the game 3-all when his sinking liner to centre field dropped just beyond Cains outstretched glove. Duffy, who appeared bothered by lengthy waits for television breaks between innings, was eventually removed after allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in 5 2-3 innings. The Royals made sure to pick him up. Butler and Gordon worked walks to start the bottom half of the sixth, earning Phelps a visit from Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild. It didnt do any good. Two pitches later, Perez sent a no-doubt homer into the bullpen in left field to restore the Royals three-run lead. "We needed that," Perez said. "Its not been easy, but its coming." Cain tripled later in the inning, and Aokis RBI single knocked Phelps from the game. "We just scored three runs. Thats the worst kind of team error right there," Phelps said. "To go out and we have all the momentum right there and in nine pitches gave it right back." It was another poor outing by the Yankees right-hander, who moved from the bullpen into the rotation last month. Phelps has lost four straight decisions, allowing 16 runs in the last three. Hosmers homer leading off the seventh was his first since May 5, a span of 130 at-bats, and Brian Roberts tacked on a run off Mariot in the ninth inning that proved to be moot. "Youve got to keep battling back," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Were still fighting." NOTES: The Yankees have not scored more than four runs in any of their last nine games. ... Yankees CF Jacoby Ellsbury extended his hitting streak to 12 games. ... Royals 2B Omar Infante went 0 for 5, extending his slump to 0 for 18. ... The Yankees chose RHP Mariano Rivera III, the son of longtime closer Mariano Rivera, in the 29th round of the first-year player draft. ... Yankees RHP Hiroki Kuroda and Royals RHP James Shields are scheduled to start Sunday. Cody Franson Jersey . When New Zealand finally held on for an 8-7 win, France No. 8 Imanol Harinordoquy collapsed to the ground, having given every drop of energy he could muster, and lay prone as All Blacks danced around him in celebration. Few critics had given France any chance, but coach Marc Lievremonts team rallied from 8-0 down and came within one kick of taking the lead with 15 minutes remaining, only for flyhalf Francois Trinh-Ducs 49-meter effort to drift wide. Richard Panik Jersey . Tortorella told The Vancouver Province hell be cheering for Team Sweden to win gold when they take on the defending Olympic champions on Sunday morning. "I hope Sweden wins, cause I dont think Hammer (Dan Hamhuis) is going to play, judging by whats happened. http://www.officialblackhawksauthority.ценз/denis-savard-blackhawks-jersey-c-23/. -- Adrian Peterson remained in a walking boot to treat a high ankle sprain on his left leg on Wednesday, and coach Leslie Frazier said he will not play on Sunday against Atlanta if he cant hit the practice field in the next two days. Alex DeBrincat Jersey . Im very excited about the playoffs, particularly in the Western Conference with amazing match-ups, as well as the wonderful local story in the Toronto Raptors. It should be a blast. Here are my predictions, but based upon my lousy prognostications during the NCAA Tournament, you might be better off going the other way on some of mine - particularly with the Raptors, who I hope and pray are able to win an incredibly difficult match-up. Pierre Pilote Jersey .C. Lions 35-14, was named the CFLs offensive player of the week Tuesday. Sheets recorded his ninth 100-yard rushing performance of the season to tie the Riders club record. The Bruins gain an edge while the Ducks ride a rookie goaltender to even up their series. Notes on Carl Soderberg, Loui Eriksson, P.K. Subban, Ryan Getzlaf, John Gibson and more. BRUINS BACK IN CONTROL The Boston Bruins leaned on their supporting cast in Game Five, and it paid off, with a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens, giving the Bruins a 3-2 lead in the series. Carl Soderberg paced the Bruins, with a goal and two assists and while that was Soderbergs first goal of the postseason (to go with five assists), hes been a possession stalwart for the Bruins, on for 59.9 of the 5-on-5 shot attempts in the playoffs. Right there with Soderberg has been Loui Eriksson, who had a goal and an assist in Game Five, and has been rocking a 60% Corsi percentage in the postseason. 5-on-5 shot attempts. D Johnny Boychuk was tops on the Bruins, at 75.0%. While were covering Bruins players that were acquired from Dallas as part of the Tyler Seguin deal, might as well point out that Reilly Smith scored a goal and leads the NHL with a 61.9% Corsi percentage in the playoffs, and recent call-up Matt Fraser -- the OT hero of Game Four -- picked up an assist on Erikssons goal. There may be long-term regrets over what Seguin may accomplish in Dallas but, on this night, the Bruins reaped some nice rewards from the pieces they received in that trade. Smith was part of the Bruins most dominant line of the night, with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, all three on for at least 71.4% of the Interesting to note that, while RW Jarome Iginla scored a power play goal, the Bruins number one line continues to struggle. Iginla, Milan Lucic and David Krejci were the bottom three on the Bruins possession chart in Game Five. That happens to the best of them, though, because P.K. Subban was at the bottom of Montreals, on for 10 5-on-5 shot attempts for and 21 against (32.3%). Even so, Subban had a total of 14 shot attempts during the game (six on ценз, two missed, six blocked) and did score a power play goal late in the third period. Of course, the sideshow story that stands out from the game is that Subban, skating in front of the Bruins bench to retrieve the puck, was squirted with water by Bruins RW Shawn Thornton. For a guy that didnt hesitate to complain about Subban ducking his attempted late hit earlier in the series, thats mighty irresponsible. Subban was fine, but players on the ice -- especially in live action -- shouldnt have to deal with interference in any manner coming from the bench. One Canadiens player that might want a do-over on Game Five is C Tomas Plekanec. His possession stats (37.5%) were among the worst on the club and he took three minor penalties, that last two of which resulted in power play goals for the Bruins.dddddddddddd While the possession numbers were close throughout the game and shot totals ended up favouring Montreal 31-30, the Bruins really had the game under control. Once they opened up a 3-0 lead 1:36 into the second period, the Canadiens were left to chase. Now, that puts Montreal in a must-win situation at home in Game Six. They certainly could; theyve played well enough to do it, but the Habs have also let the Bruins off the hook and are facing elimination because of it. ROAD WINNERS The Anaheim Ducks scored two goals in a 2:43 span late in the first period and made it stand up for the final 41:15, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 2-0, tie even the series at two games apiece. Anaheims big guns, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry each had two points, with Perry assisting on both goals, and Getzlaf scoring the second. With Matt Beleskey injured in Game Three, Devante Smith-Pelly joined the line and scored the games first goal. Getzlaf now has 13 points, two behind the playoff leader, the Kings Anze Kopitar. Ducks G Frederik Andersen left Game Three with a lower-body injury, which prompted the Ducks to start rookie John Gibson in Game Four and Gibson responded with a 28-save shutout. 20-year-old Gibson has the pedigree to be a top-tier goaltender. In 51 (regular season plus playoff) games in the AHL this year, he has a .924 save percentage, and stopped 79 of 83 shots (.954 SV%) in three games with the Ducks in the regular season. Gibson didnt have it easy, as the Ducks went into a shell after the first period and were outshot 19-3 the rest of the way, registering zero shots on goal in the second period. This led to some ridiculous possession stats. For the Kings, C Jarret Stoll was on the ice for Jakob Silfverberg, Saku Koivu and Andrew Cogliano -- were on for fewer than 20% of the shot attempts. The Kings also pulled G Jonathan Quick after the first period, turning to rookie Martin Jones. The home team has yet to win in this series and the Ducks have thrown a wildcard into the proceedings. If Gibson continues to run hot, that could be enough to tilt the balance. Of course, evening out the possession game would ease some of the pressure on Gibson and thats still possible -- the Ducks were keeping pace with the Kings in that regard through the first three games. From the Kings perspective, they now have to figure out how they are going to get Gibson off his game and start burying the chances that they get. In any case, theres lots left to be decided here.
